Biography

Borne in Charlemagne on 30 March 1968 (next to Montreal, Canada), Celine had a dream: to become a singer. Did it was her destiny? Celine Dion has been called the premier contemporary pop vocalist of the Nineties. She has grown from a gifted pre-adolescent into an international superstar. She has earned music industry accolades from all around the world: Grammy Awards in the US, Juno and Felix Awards in Canada, World Music Awards and many more.

All began in Quebec with "La voix du bon dieu" and the big success of "Ce n'etait qu'un reve" written by her mother. It's with this song she met her manager, and now husband, Rene Angelil. Bit by bit, she acquired new markets. She sang for the pope, she won the first place at a Tokyo song competition and was among the best in France. After a one and a half-year break, she was back with a new album: "Incognito". New look, new style, new girl !!! Then, she recorded an English album: "Unison" of which the single "Where does my heart beat now" reach up the number 4 in Billboard in the USA. A few while later, she recorded a duet for Disney, "Beauty and the beast", and won her first Grammy Award and an Oscar !!!

But it's with the album "The colour of my love" that she became an international star, released in November 1993. Celine has sold nearly 18 million albums around the world with this album.

Consider these facts: In the UK, "The colour of my love" was the biggest album of 1995, with sales to date of more than two million copies. Both the album and Celine's single "Think twice" topped the UK charts for five weeks concurrently, a chart record unmatched since the heyday of the Beatles, 30 years ago. In Australia, "The colour of my love" is now 8x platinum. In Japan, where the album has sold over one million copies, Celine Dion became the country's top-selling foreign artist and the first non-Japanese performer in 12 years to reach Number One on the national singles chart. In her native Canada, where "The colour of my love" has sold 1.4 million copies, Celine was the biggest-selling artist of 1995.

On 17 December 1994 at Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal, Celine get married with her manager Rene Angelil. This wedding is considered the event of the year 1994 ! After "The colour of my love", she was back with a French album called "D'eux" or also known "The French album". Written and produced by Jean-Jacques Goldman, she has sold more than 5 million copies world-wide. This total includes 3 million copies in France alone; and 150,000 copies in the UK, where "D'eux" became the first French-language album ever to be certified gold. Today, "D'eux" is the best-selling French-language album of all time; in France, it is the best-selling album ever, in any language. In 1996, the French government has awarded Celine Dion its prestigious Medal Of Arts in recognition of her status as the best-selling French-language artist in history.

Celine's 1995 European tour, which touched down in eleven countries, comprised 42 sold-out concerts, most in arenas of 14,000 or more capacity. In Paris alone, Celine sold out a total of nine shows. But for Celine, it's not enough !!! So, she recorded another English album: "Falling into you". This album is a giant step in a remarkable career: 14 songs, which reveal the full range of Celine's interpretative skills, from the lilting reggae-rock of "Make you happy" to the towering pop-gospel of "Declaration of love". Of course, no Celine Dion album would be complete without such impassioned ballads as "Because you loved me" and her cover of Eric Carmen's 1975 hit, "All by myself".

"It's all coming back to me now" is one of the three tracks produced by the legendary Jim Steinman, with background vocals arranged by Todd Rundgren. Another Steinman/Dion collaboration is a high-energy rendition of the Tina Turner classic "River deep, mountain high". The third Steinman-produced track, "Call the man", is a beautiful and touching song of lost love featuring the peerless acoustic guitar work of Epic labelmate Ottmar Liebert. Over 25 million have been sold of this album. The most important moment of her career is when she sang for the opening song of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. She sang front of over 3 billion people from all around the world the beautiful song "The power of the dream". This song is a hope for all athletes of the world.

After a triumphal world tour and a big success with the last album, Celine fulfil her dreams. She records an other album, "Let's talk about love", with who she sang in duet with Barbra Streisand, Luciano Pavarotti, The Bee Gees and meets George Martin who produces a song of Carol King, "The reason". It will be with the song "My heart will go on", theme song from the movie "Titanic", with who she gets the top of her career. This song gets all the honours prices in the world. It's the song most played on the radio. Today, this album is sold at more than 26 millions of copies. In 1998, Celine goes back in studio with Jean-Jacques Goldman, to record a second album with him. "S'il suffisait d'aimer" is 12 songs similar to her career before she signed with Sony. Here it's a simple Celine. This album is a gift for her fans for emotion, pop rhythms and also her incredible voice.

For Christmas 1998, Celine records an album. Many traditional songs like "O holy night" and "Ave Maria", new rhythms and two sensational duets with R. Kelly and Andrea Bocelli fulfil this album. In addition, Celine sang two songs with her family, of which one in French. Still today, she goes on and smashes records and gets prices. She wants a break that she merits and don't worry, she will keep going to sing ... forever ...
